The Hills are alive with the sounds of Speidi! Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have continued to defy reality TV odds for more than a decade.
Two years after they started dating — and documenting their relationship on the MTV hit — Us Weekly exclusively revealed that Heidi and Spencer secretly tied the knot in Mexico in November 2008.
“Heidi, from the moment you came [into] my life, I knew my life would never be the same,” the Pratt Daddy Crystals creator told his bride at the time. “You are the light in my life like the sun to the Earth … I will love you forever and always.”
It would be another several months, however, until Heidi and Spencer’s family, friends, frenemy Lauren Conrad and new costar Kristin Cavallari would watch the couple become husband and wife in the United States. The duo exchanged vows again on April 25, 2009 in front of MTV cameras at Westminster Presbyterian Church in California.
“I’m just so happy they found each other,” Heidi’s mother, Darlene Egelhoff, told Us at the time. “I feel like I’ve passed on the job of taking care of Heidi to him, and it’s a big job! He’s the only other person alive who could do it.”
Following the cancellation of The Hills in 2010, Heidi and Spencer went on to to appear on multiple reality shows together. They appeared to settle down in October 2017 when Heidi gave birth to their first child, a son named Gunner.
“I was like, ‘This is way gnarlier than anything I am mentally prepared for,’” Spencer admitted to Us about labor at the time. “Thankfully, Heidi’s makeup artist and now one of Gunner’s godmothers stepped in for the first couple hours.”

Heidi met Spencer in a club while filming season 2 of the MTV hit show. “I pretty much told everyone I was going to marry him,” she previously gushed.
Lauren and Heidi went head to head during season 3 of The Hills after Spencer spread sex-tape rumors about the Laguna Beach alum. The former BFFs don’t speak to this day.
After less than a year of dating, Spencer popped the question on a Santa Barbara beach — with a promise ring — in May 2007. But by December, they had called off their promise. “We’re just going back to being boyfriend and girlfriend,” Heidi told Us at the time.
Us broke the news that Heidi and Spencer decided to elope last minute in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. “I was just putting it out there, how easy it would be with no drama,” Spencer exclusively told Us after they tied the knot. “It was exactly the wedding I wanted.”
“I do”… round two! The couple wed in a second ceremony on April 25, 2009. The nuptials aired on season 5 of The Hills.
Just days after The Hills series finale aired (and a little over a year after they wed), Heidi filed for divorce from Spencer and cited irreconcilable differences in July 2010. “She couldn’t handle King Spencer’s fame, so she got out of the marriage,” he told Us at the time.
Three months later, Speidi reconciled and withdrew divorce paperwork. “We are back together trying to make things work,” the couple said in a statement in September 2010. “We do love each other and realized we do want to spend the rest of our lives together.”
The twosome headed to WEtv’s Marriage Boot Camp in January 2015 because Heidi was ready to expand their family and Spencer wasn’t. “I’m baby blocking!” he said on the show.
After years of arguing over the right time to start a family, the pair welcomed Gunner Pratt on October 1, 2017. “I find myself crying just looking at him,” Heidi said exclusively to Us hours after welcoming their firstborn. Spencer added, “Holding him is still so unbelievable.”
MTV announced The Hills was returning with New Beginnings nearly a year before its premiere date. “I’m very thankful and it’s a major blessing,” Spencer told Us of the revival. “It’s literally manifesting dreams, ’cause I never wanted The Hills to end.”
In June, the duo exclusively revealed to Us that they’re expecting their second baby in December 2022 after years of trying to conceive. “I think a lot of women struggle with this and it’s just not something a lot of people talk about because it’s so hard and it’s so personal,” Montag told Us of her pregnancy challenges. “And I felt really blessed having Gunner and having such a beautiful healthy son, so I was trying not to be ungrateful for my life and for what I do have. And at the same time, it was such a deep longing in my heart that I had — wanting a sibling for Gunner and wanting to expand our family.”
The happy couple vacationed in Hawaii with their son, Gunner. Montag rocked a bikini and showed off her baby bump in pictures shared via Instagram. “Finally getting around to my Hawaii photo dump! Such a memorable trip,” she wrote in the caption.
The duo welcomed their second son, a baby boy, on November 17. Montag documented the lead-up to the little one’s arrival via social media, revealing that she actually went to the hospital one day prior. She went home after her contractions stalled, only to return less than 24 hours later. “This baby is definitely keeping me on my toes,” she joked in an Instagram Story posted before the birth.
